News update

2006

Back to France, the country of strikes and protests. The second semester of the year 2005-06 was disrupted by a several week long blockade of the Censier campus.

Two of my pictures got published by Le Monde's website, in their section covering the protests for or against the new youth employment bill (CPE): Censier (lemonde.fr, March 21, 2006 issue), Jussieu (lemonde.fr, March 22, 2006 issue). My other pictures on the subject are in this album.

2004

Now that I am done with my thesis, I need to find something else to do.

I am interning with the Long Now foundation, working on the Rosetta project, under the supervision of Laura Buszard-Welcher.

In addition, I am taking advantage of my being in Silicon Valley (aka geek land) to broaden my knowledge of computer science and specifically of programming languages — essentially Python, PHP and MySQL right now, but also CSS and html. I very recently designed the Bentley Capital website, and William's homepage on Madsquirrel.net.

On this occasion, I programmed a little Python script, which I called PyWebGallery. My script generates a ready-to-upload gallery from the pictures located in any folder: it resizes the pictures, generates the thumbnails, and creates the corresponding html files. A configuration file allows the user to edit, among other things, the size and compression parameters, and to link the gallery to a CSS stylesheet. The script will soon be available for download. For now, check out the results in the pics section of William's website.

I remain interested in any research project in linguistics, especially if it can find industrial applications in high tech. Any suggestions?
